1912 Composer and arranger Russ Case was born on 19 March 1912, in Hamburg, Iowa and died 10 October 1964, in Miami, Florida. After a high-school education, he became a freelance arranger and trumpeter from 1927 to 1945, and then until 1964 conducted the orchestras for many network and local radio and television programs, and also made many recordings. Joining ASCAP in 1957, his popular-song compositions include "Midnight Oil", "Sliphorn Sam", "La Valse", "Frantic Fiddles", "Gambler's Ballet", "Little Genius Ballet" and "Gabriel's Heater"
